EMS 231 - Paramedic Lab II Offered WI Lab/Studio- 9 4.5 credit hrs/9 contact hrs Prerequisite: Completion of all EMS courses with a “C” or better (2.0 out of a 4.0 scale) Corequisite: EMS 211 - Paramedic Pharmacology II , EMS 221 - Paramedic Cardiology II , EMS 241 - Paramedic Clinical II , EMS 250 - Advanced Cardiac Life Support , EMS 251 - Advanced Pediatric Life Support , EMS 252 - Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support
This course is a continuation of EMS 230 with the introduction of additional skills and continued application of theory. Measurement criteria for skills competencies becomes more stringent and students must become competent in all paramedic skills in preparation for the field internship component. Students are also evaluated in the management of simulated emergencies.
Student Learning Outcomes:
- Perform neonatal assessments.
- Perform neonatal resuscitation techniques.
- Demonstrate techniques of pediatric resuscitation.
- Perform airway management of the pediatric patient.
- Demonstrate patient management using pediatric advanced life support (PALS).
- Manage infection control in pre-hospital care.
- Demonstrate the techniques of rescue operations.
- Assess soft tissue injuries.
- Assess musculoskeletal injuries.
