EMS 230 - Paramedic Lab I Offered FL Lab/Studio- 9 4.5 credit hrs/9 contact hrs Prerequisite: Current Emergency Medical Technician certification & EMS Orientation-Paramedic Corequisite: EMS 210 - Paramedic Pharmacology I , EMS 220 - Paramedic Cardiology I , EMS 240 - Paramedic Clinical I
This course provides paramedic skills required for advanced life support and provides the opportunity to apply theory to field practice in a discussion and skills lab setting. Skills will be demonstrated, practiced during supervised labs, and tested for competency. Students are also evaluated in the management of simulated emergencies.
Student Learning Outcomes:
- Perform assessment techniques of the shock victim.
- Perform general management of patients in shock.
- Perform the techniques for rapid packaging and transport.
- Perform the techniques of a respiratory assessment.
- Demonstrate airway management techniques.
- Perform intravenous therapy techniques.
- Calculate drip rates using multiple techniques with 100% accuracy.
- Discuss treatment options for diabetes.
- Discuss disorders of the Endocrine System.
- Perform an assessment of the geriatric patient.
