PSY 265 - Developmental Psychology Offered FL Lecture- 3 3 credit hrs/3 contact hrs Prerequisite: PSY 161 - Introduction to Psychology with “C” or better (2.0 out of a 4.0 scale) An examination of the biological, cognitive, and socioemotional development of the person from conception to death. Major theories of human development are reviewed and contrasted. The interaction of heredity and environmental factors in shaping human development is analyzed.
Student Learning Outcomes:
- Explain the influence of genetics and environment on development.
- Critically evaluate the major theories in developmental psychology.
- Compare and contrast common research designs in the field of developmental psychology.
- Analyze the major domains of development (physical, cognitive, social, and emotional).
- Identify cultural influences on human development.
- Recognize grief and loss issues as they apply to developmental theory.
