Prerequisite:  MTH 121 - Intermediate Algebra  with “C” or better (2.0 out of a 4.0 scale) or appropriate assessment score
For students pursuing mathematically rigorous STEM pathways such as computer science, engineering, mathematics, or physical science. Curriculum will include a thorough study of algebraic functions (linear, quadratic, rational) and transcendental functions (exponential, logarithmic, trigonometric). Skills developed will include simplifying expressions, solving equations, and graphical techniques as needed in preparation for calculus.

Student Learning Outcomes:
  • Sketch the graphs of polynomial functions, rational functions, exponential functions, logarithmic functions, and trigonometric functions including zeros and asymptotes.
  • Model and solve real-life application problems using an appropriate function or problem-solving technique.
  • Solve equations using a variety of techniques including factoring, the quadratic formula, logarithms, and trigonometry.
  • Solve a system of linear equations using matrices.
  • Solve for the missing part of a triangle using trigonometric or inverse trigonometric functions.
