WLD 113 - Gas Metal Arc Lab Offered FL, WI Lab- 8 4 credit hrs/8 contact hrs Prerequisite/Corequisite: WLD 103 - Welding Technology II & WLD 104 - Basic Arc Lab Practice in the setup of Semi‐automatic Gas Metal Arc Welding equipment. Solid wire, self‐shielded flux core, gas‐shielded flux core and aluminum electrodes are used to produce butt, lap, tee, and vee‐groove joints in all positions. Guided bend tests are utilized to determine weld quality to American Welding D 1.1 Standard.
Student Learning Outcomes:
- Properly adjust machine setting; start the arc, manipulate the gun, and read the puddle, in order to make sound welds with the surfacing technique and stringer beads in the flat position.
- Produce square groove butt and fillet welds in the flat position.
- Produce square groove butt and fillet welds in the horizontal position.
- Produce quality square groove butt and fillet welds in the vertical up position.
- Produce square groove butt and fillet welds in the overhead position.
- Produce single vee groove welds on 3/8” plate in the horizontal position, guided bend test to AWS standard.
- Produce single vee groove welds on 3/8” plate in the flat position using the pulse arc transfer mode, guided bend test to AWS standard.
- Produce single vee groove welds on 1” plate in the vertical position, guided bend test to AWS standard.
- Produce single vee groove welds on 3/8” plate in the overhead position, guided bend test to AWS standard.
- Produce groove and fillet welds on 11 gauge mild steel in the flat and horizontal position.
- Produce groove and fillet welds on 11 gauge mild steel in the vertical down position.
- Produce inside and outside corner joints using a self-shielded electrode.
- Exhibit ethical/professional behavior in attendance, class conduct, assignment completion, teamwork and constructive peer feedback.
