WLD 104 - Basic Arc Lab Offered FL, WI Lab- 8 4 credit hrs/8 contact hrs Prerequisite: WLD 100 - Basic Oxy and Arc Welding Prerequisite/Corequisite: WLD 101 - Welding Technology I Will enhance Shielded Metal Arc Welding skills in all positions using a variety of electrodes. Weld quality will be determined by producing guided bend and fillet fracture tests to American Welding Society standards.
Student Learning Outcomes:
- Provide training in making multiple pass fillet tee joint horizontal position using a 5/32” E-6010.
- Advance skill for tee joint welding and perform a practical test to AWS standards that provides measure of acceptability horizontal position using a 5/32” E-6010 electrode.
- Provide training in the proper method for making a sound, 100% penetration open root butt joint horizontal position using a 1/8” E-6010.
- Demonstrate knowledge in proper techniques of welding fillet, lap joint vertical-up position, using a 1/8” E-6010.
- Demonstrate the proper method of electrode manipulation to make a sound multi-pass tee joint in the vertical-up position, 3 stringer beads, using a 1/8” E-6010.
- Demonstrate knowledge in proper electrode manipulation for making a sound multi-pass tee fillet weld in the vertical-up position, 3 weave beads, using a 1/8” E-6010.
- Demonstrate the practical application of square groove butt joints in the vertical-up position, with 100% penetration, using a 1/8” E-6010, destructively tested to AWS standard.
- Demonstrate proper electrode manipulation and arc control to produce sound fillet weld lap joints in overhead position, using a 1/8” E-6010.
- Demonstrate proper bead sequence and control of the arc in making sound multi-pass fillet joints in the overhead position, 3 bead tee joint, using a 1/8” E-6010.
- Demonstrate knowledge in fillet welding in the overhead position, single bead tee joint, using a 1/8” E-6010, destructively tested to AWS standard.
- Demonstrate the practical application of square groove butt joints in the overhead position, with 100% penetration, using a 1/8” 6010 electrode.
- Demonstrate proper electrode manipulation and arc control to produce sound fillet weld lap and tee-joints in the horizontal position, using a 1/8” E-7024 (iron powder electrode).
- Demonstrate proper manipulation of the low Hydrogen electrode to make a sound multi-pass tee fillet welds in the vertical position 3 bead, 1/8” E-7018 electrode.
- Demonstrate proper manipulation of the low Hydrogen electrode to make a sound multi-pass tee fillets in the overhead position, 3 stringer beads, 1/8” E-7018 electrode, 5/16” equal-legged fillet.
- Demonstrate ability to properly sequence weld beads, to produce a 1” leg multi-pass fillet weld tee joint, using 5/32” E-7018 and E-7024, destructively tested to AWS standards.
- Produce fillet welds, inside/outside corner and lap joints in the vertical down position, using a 3/32” or 1/8” E-6010 on 11 gauge mild steel.
- Carbon arc gouging—demonstrate skills required to produce 100 percent penetration square groove butt joints.
- Exhibit ethical/professional behavior in attendance, class conduct, assignment completion, teamwork and constructive peer feedback.
