WLD 106 - Advanced Arc Lab

Offered FL, WI
Lab- 8
4 credit hrs/8 contact hrs
Prerequisite: WLD 104 - Basic Arc Lab
Prerequisite/Corequisite: WLD 103 - Welding Technology II
Will produce fillet and open root Single‐Vee groove welds in all positions using large diameter electrodes with the Shielded Metal Arc Welding process. Weld quality will be checked using macro‐etch and guided bend testing to American Welding Society standards. Prepares student for welding qualification tests.

Student Learning Outcomes:
  • Deposit multi-pass fillet weld tee joints in the horizontal position using 5/32” E-6010 and E-7018 electrodes.
  • Produce quality multi-pass tee fillet welds in the overhead position, 5/32” E-6010 and E-7018 electrodes.
  • Produce multi-pass fillet weld tee joints in the vertical position with uphill travel, using 5/32” E-6010 and E-7018.
  • Produce multi-pass fillet weld tee joints in the vertical position with uphill travel, using 5/32” E-6010 and E-7018, destructively tested to AWS standard.
  • Produce quality complete penetration single vee groove welds in the horizontal position, open root using 1/8” E-6010 and E-7018, guided bend test to AWS standards.
  • Produce quality complete penetration single vee groove welds in the flat position, open root using 1/8” E-6010 and E-7018, guided bend test to AWS standard.
  • Produce quality complete penetration single vee groove welds, in the vertical up position, open root, using multiple pass weave beads, 1/8” E-6010 and E-7018, guided bend test to AWS standards.
  • Produce quality complete penetration single vee groove welds in the overhead position, open root using 1/8” E-6010 and E-7018, guided bend test to AWS standards.
  • Produce a single vee groove weld in the vertical up position on 1” plate destructively tested to AWS standards.
  • Demonstrate skill required to produce quality 100 percent penetration groove with fillet reinforcement, 3/4” legs, using a carbon arc gouging process destructively tested to AWS standards.
  • Exhibit ethical/professional behavior in attendance, class conduct, assignment completion, teamwork and constructive peer feedback.
