WLD 100 - Basic Oxy and Arc Welding

Prerequisite/Corequisite: WLD 101 - Welding Technology I
Introduction to flat and vertical oxyacetylene welding, brazing of mild steel and cast iron. Basic shielded metal arc welding in flat, horizontal and vertical positions with mild steel electrodes. Basic safety principles, operation and application of arc welding, oxyacetylene, and torch cutting equipment.

Student Learning Outcomes:

Produce a weld bead on a plate in the flat position, without and with the use of filler metal.
Produce lap joint fillet weld on 11 gage mild steel in the horizontal position with filler metal.
Produce outside and inside corner joint fillet welds on 11 gage mild steel in the horizontal position with filler metal.
Produce square groove welds on 11 gage mild steel in the flat position with filler metal.
Produce square groove welds on 11 gage mild steel in the vertical-up position with filler metal.
Produce square, bevel, and circular flame cut edges of sufficient quality to pass visual inspection.
Produce square groove braze welds in the flat position using 11 gage mild steel.
Produce fillet braze welds on tee joints in the horizontal position using 11 gage mild steel.
Produce braze lap joints with the use of capillary action in the horizontal position using 11 gage mild steel.
Produce multiple pass braze fillet joints on 3/8” mild steel plate destructively tested.
Produce stringer beads and surfacing flat position, using an E-6010.
Produce lab joint fillet weld in the horizontal position, using an E-6010.
Produce a multi pass tee fillet in the horizontal position, using an E-6010.
Produce stringer beads and surfacing in the horizonal position, using an E-6010.
Produce stringer beads and surfacing flat position, using an E-7018.
Produce lap joint fillet weld in the horizontal position, using an E-7018.
Produce a multi pass tee fillet in the horizonal position, using an E-7018.
Produce stringer beads and surfacing in the horizonal position, using an E-7018.
Produce a multi pass tee fillet in the overhead position, using and E-6010.
Produce a multi pass tee fillet in the vertical up position, using an E-7018.
