TMA 114 - Technical Math II

3 credit hrs/3 contact hrs
Prerequisite: TMA 113 - Technical Math I  with “C” or better (2.0 out of a 4.0 scale)
Continuation of TMA 113 . Principles of plane geometry, solid geometry and trigonometry, and application to the solutions of trade‐related problems. (Calculator required.)

Student Learning Outcomes:
Plane Geometry
1. Measure and work with angles in degrees, minutes, and seconds
2. Find the area and perimeter of polygons using the appropriate formulas
3. Identify different types of triangles
4. Use the pythagorean theorem to solve for the unknown legs of a right triangle
5. Find the circumference and the area of circles and rings using the appropriate formulas

Solid Geometry
1. Identify different solid geometric objects
2. Find the lateral surface area and volume of prisms, pyramids, cylinders, cones and spheres using the appropriate formulas

Right Triangle Trigonometry
1. Convert decimal parts of a degree to minutes and seconds
2. Convert minutes of a degree to decimal parts of a degree
3. Convert degrees to radians
4. Recognize the three special right triangles and label their trigonometric relationships
5. Establish the standard trigonometric relationships of any right triangle and use them to solve for unknown triangle values

Oblique Triangle Trigonometry
1. Know the law of sines and when to use it
2. Use the law of sines to solve for oblique triangle unknowns
3. Know the law of cosines and when to use it
4. Use the law of cosines to solve for oblique triangle unknowns

Advanced Algebra
1. Solve a system of two linear equations with two unknowns using the substitution method
2. Solve a system of two linear equations with two unknowns using the elimination method
3. Recognize a quadratic equation and be able to put it in standard form
4. Use the quadratic formula to solve quadratic equations
