Offered FL
Lecture- 5
5 credit hrs/5 contact hrs
Prerequisite: MTH 161 - College Algebra with Trigonometry  with “C” or better (2.0 out of a 4.0 scale) or appropriate assessment score
For students pursuing mathematically rigorous STEM pathways such as computer science, engineering, mathematics, or physical science. Curriculum will include limits, continuity, differentiation, and integration as applied to algebraic (linear, quadratic, rational) and transcendental (exponential, logarithmic, trigonometric) functions. Skills developed will include differentiation and integration techniques, and critical thinking to solve complex problems.

Student Learning Outcomes:
  • Calculate limits of functions using a variety of techniques including L’Hopital’s Rule.
  • Calculate derivatives of functions using the product rule, the quotient rule, the chain rule, implicit differentiation, and logarithmic differentiation.
  • Apply derivatives to analyze functions and their graphs.
  • Apply derivatives to solve optimization problems.
  • Calculate definite and indefinite integrals of functions.
  • Apply the operation of integration to calculate areas, volumes, arc lengths, amount of work, and moment and center of mass for various regions.
