ECE 121 - Early Child Ed and Child Care II

Prerequisite: ECE 120 - Early Childhood Ed and Child Care I  with “C” or better (2.0 out of a 4.0 scale)
A continuation from ECE 120 of learning about the principles and methodologies of developmentally appropriate practices for early education classrooms. Investigating these principle concepts focused on child development, underlying theories, and childcare. Each functional area of the CDA Competency Standards will be covered.

Student Learning Outcomes:
  • Scrutinize state and national requirements for the care of young children in a licensed and/or nationally accredited childcare facility and statewide educational standards benchmarks.
  • Evaluate the behavior and related developmental needs of young children.
  • Practice appropriate techniques and strategies to guide young children in meeting individualized needs.
  • Demonstrate understanding of creating a culturally consistent environment, staff-to-teacher ratios, components of quality childcare settings, and arrangement of indoor and outdoor environments to encourage play and exploration.
  • Practice and incorporate the implementation of developmentally appropriate practice and commitment as a professional within the realm of the NAEYC’s Code of Ethical Conduct.
  • Show understanding of commitment required for Mandated Reporters regarding abuse and neglect.
  • Compare and contrast the competencies necessary for national credentials.
  • From these competencies the student will compile a resource file made up of the competencies, community resources for children and families, and structures lesson plans.
