This program is an Employer-Sponsored Apprenticeship Program offered collaboratively through the Michigan Workforce Training and Education Collaborative (MWTEC). All students accepted into the program must be employed as an apprentice and sponsored by a health care facility. Cognitive components will be completed online through West Shore Community College, with virtual labs and on-site clinicals. General Education requirements may be completed prior to program enrollment and/or through a student’s home institution. Due to the collaborative nature of the program, the tuition and fees for the program follow the MWTEC established tuition and fees. Rates and program cost sheets can be found here.
Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) work in nursing homes, hospitals, private homes, and physician offices. They help people of all ages by assessing health, providing treatments, comfort, and caring. LPNs are respected members of the health care team, working under the direction of RNs and doctors. WSCC’s LPN program serves as the first year of the curriculum toward the associate’s degree in nursing.
Admission into this Nursing Program is by apprenticeship agreement, current employment in direct patient care (CNA, MA, Paramedic, etc.), and contingent on the student/apprentice passing the Kaplan Admission test and Dosage Calculation test and having an average GPA of 2.5 or higher. Students must earn at least a 75% grade average in each course to continue in the program, but must earn a 2.7 (B‐) in ANP I and II. ANP 230, ANP 231, ENG 111 and PSY 161 may be completed prior to the program.
