MRI 220 - MR Physics I

Offered FL
Lecture- 3 Lab- 0 Clinical/Studio- 0
3 credit hrs/3 contact hrs
This is the first in a series of two courses that provide the MRI student with a basic foundation of MRI physics. Students will explore the properties of atoms and their interactions within the magnetic field. Emphasis will be placed on the basic principles of MRI, data acquisition, and tissues characteristics in image formation.

Student Learning Outcomes:
  • Identify and discuss the basic principles of MRI.
  • Identify and discuss the intrinsic parameters that affect image quality.
  • Identify and discuss the extrinsic parameters that affect image quality.
  • Explore the localization of the gradients and their use in signal encoding.
  • Describe the operator control variables and discuss their impact on signal-to-noise and resolution.
