MRI 260 - Pre-Clinical Preparation

This course prepares the MRI student for safe participation in clinical education within the MRI environment.  Students will explore and discuss the importance of MRI safety and patient assessment.  While most of the course is delivered online, students will practice and master various safety procedures in a face-to-face workshop setting.

Student Learning Outcomes:
  • Detail the history of MRI.
  • Identify MRI safety practices.
  • Identify the importance of patient assessment and patient screening practices.
  • Identify patient considerations that will require the MRI Technologist to use critical thinking in order to perform a diagnostic exam.
  • Identify common drug names, common uses, effects on the body, routes of administration, and basic characteristics of contrast medias used in the imaging department with an emphasis on the MRI department.
  • Detail infection control risks as related to the MRI department.
  • Describe the various medical equipment found within the MRI department and the quality control measures used to maintain the equipment.
  • Identify the various medical procedures that occur within the MRI department.
