DART 100 - Introduction to Computer Animation

This introductory course provides students with a theoretical foundation alongside practical experience working in computer-aided animation. Using industry-standard 3D animation software, students will use animation techniques to articulate and communicate a variety of topics. Techniques covered in the course include modeling, texturing, lighting, animation, and rendering. 

Student Learning Outcomes:
 

  • Identify trends, developments, and concepts in the history of animation. 

  • Demonstrate an understanding of basic concepts of copyright and fair use.  

  • Use a variety of applications to create character-driven animated scenarios. 

  • Construct a project management plan for a 3D animation project incorporating industry-standard production processes, deliverables, and timelines. 

  • Create an applied 3D animation project including storyboards, character designs, object design, scenes and environments, texturing, lighting, animation, and rendering. 

  • Translate 3D animation work into presentable renderings ready to pitch.
