ART 157 - Photography I

Introduction to photographic technology on a theoretical and practical level. Students will learn camera types and related equipment, exposure controls, creative controls, and beginning digital production skills.  Students must provide a digital camera with manual exposure settings, possess basic computer skills, and purchase their own photographic paper.

Student Learning Outcomes:
  • Software: Adobe Photoshop; ProShow Gold; Adobe Lightroom.
  • Fundamental mechanical concepts of the photographic process.
  • Fundamental artistic concepts of the photographic process.
  • Mechanical operations of the camera.
  • Mechanical operations of lenses.
  • Basic lighting techniques.
  • Basic graphic design.
  • The development process of digital photographic media.
  • The ability to see photographs and compose them.
  • To provide critical analysis of photographs including their own and their peers’.
  • Remedial history of the art of photography.
  • To record a properly focused, exposed and composed image.
