WLD 114 - Gas Tungsten Arc Lab

Prerequisite/Corequisite: WLD 103 - Welding Technology II  
Practice in the setup of Gas Tungsten Arc Welding equipment. Welding of mild steel, stainless steel and aluminum butt, lap, tee and corner joints in all positions. The student will determine weld quality by producing guided bend tests to American Welding Society standards.

Student Learning Outcomes:
  • Demonstrate knowledge of torch and filler rod manipulation on mild steel plate with and without filler metal.
  • Produce lap joint fillet weld on 16 and 11 gage mild steel in the horizontal position with and without filler metal.
  • Produce outside corner joint fillet welds on 16 and 11 gage mild steel in the flat position with and without filler metal.
  • Produce tee joint fillet welds on 16 and 11 gage mild steel in the horizontal and vertical position up with filler metal.
  • Produce square groove welds on 16 and 11 gage mild steel in the flat position with filler metal.
  • Produce guided bend test on 11 gage mild steel welded in the flat position to AWS standard.
  • Produce square groove welds on 14 gage stainless steel in the flat position.
  • Produce lap joint fillet welds on 14 gage stainless steel in the horizontal position with and without filler metal.
  • Produce outside corner joint fillet weld on 14 gage stainless steel in the flat position with and without filler metal.
  • Produce tee joint fillet welds on 14 gage stainless steel in the horizontal and vertical position up with filler metal.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of torch and filler metal rod manipulation and current control to produce welds on 0.125” aluminum flat position with filler metal.
  • Produce lap joint fillet welds on 0.125” aluminum in the horizontal position with filler metal.
  • Produce outside corner joint fillet welds on aluminum in the flat position with filler metal.
  • Produce tee joint fillet welds on 0.125” aluminum in the horizontal position with filler metal.
  • Produce square groove welds on 0.125” aluminum in the flat position with filler metal.
  • Exhibit ethical/professional behavior in attendance, class conduct, assignment completion, teamwork and constructive peer feedback.
