SPN 101 - Elementary Spanish I

Through study of vocabulary; grammar; pronunciation; listening and reading comprehension; writing; and basic aspects of cultural awareness, students acquire the fundamentals of the language, with emphasis on conversational Spanish.

Student Learning Outcomes:
  • Initiate and maintain simple conversations in Spanish on everyday topics, formulating statements and questions in the present with beginning familiarity with the past.
  • Use relevant vocabulary relative to the individual’s likes and interests.
  • Utilize appropriate media in the practice and expansion of vocabulary.
  • Interpret short messages and general ideas expressed in spoken Spanish.
  • Demonstrate effective pronunciation of elementary Spanish vocabulary.
  • Explain different outlooks and unique attitudes expressed across Spanish speaking languages and cultures.
  • Exhibit ethical & professional behavior in attendance, conduct, assignment completion, collaboration, work with source material, and constructive peer feedback.
