PHL 104 - Bioethics Offered WI Lecture- 3 3 credit hrs/3 contact hrs Analysis of classical and contemporary moral problems in health care, medicine and medical research. Representative topics include abortion, euthanasia, cloning, genetic engineering, stem cell research, and patient rights.
Student Learning Outcomes:
- Identify the major issues of bioethics, such as abortion, euthanasia, stem cell research, cloning, etc.
- Explain the major ideas and theories of contemporary biomedical ethicists.
- Summarize and analyze the major views of biomedical ethicists.
- Demonstrate independent and creative thought about issues related to bioethics.
- Apply key ideas and theories from the study of bioethics to biomedical issues in the world today.
- Create bioethical theories that are supported by reasons and evidence and which draw from and reflect upon course content.
- Exhibit ethical/professional behavior in and out of the classroom in attendance, conduct, assignment completion, teamwork and constructive peer feedback.
