LIT 212 - American Literature 1865‐Present

Prerequisite: ENG 111 - English Composition I  with “C” or better (2.0 out of a 4.0 scale)
Survey of American prose, poetry, and drama since 1865 emphasizing the development of contemporary literature themes.

Student Learning Outcomes:
  • Describe the salient characteristics of significant American literary genres, works, and authors from 1865 through the post-modern period.
  • Explain how environment, politics, culture, religion, or gender influenced the character of American literature from 1865 through the post-modern period.
  • Analyze works of American literature composed after 1865 for their significant themes, values, and cultural milieu.
  • Write clearly and with appropriate literary terminology about their creative and interpretive relationship to various works of American literature written after 1865.
  • Exhibit ethical & professional behavior in attendance, conduct, assignment completion, collaboration, work with source material, and constructive peer feedback.
