LIT 151 - Topics in Literature Offered as needed Lecture- 3 3 credit hrs/3 contact hrs Course for the general student as well as the student who wishes to specialize in the study of poetry and fiction. Themes vary from semester to semester.
Student Learning Outcomes:
- Identify the salient features of four major forms of literature (poetry, short fiction, the novel, creative nonfiction).
- Apply knowledge of literary terms including plot, character, point of view, imagery, setting, irony, tone, and symbol.
- Demonstrate how a particular theme functions in its literary, historical, and cultural contexts, and across multiple pieces of literature.
- Critically examine literature as readers and writers and demonstrate their ability to defend a position using literary evidence both orally and in writing.
- Use reflection as a tool to discover the intersections of their own experiences with the material about which they read, write, and discuss.
- Exhibit ethical & professional behavior in attendance, conduct, assignment completion, teamwork and constructive peer feedback.
