HUM 108 - Mindful Living Offered FL, WI Lecture- 3 3 credit hrs/3 contact hrs Rooted in contemporary scientific research on the relationship between mental discipline and academic success, this writing intensive course presents opportunities to explore self‐reflective behaviors through a variety of activities such as meditation, journaling, active listening, memorization, recitation, drawing, body work, outdoor activity, and class discussion.
Student Learning Outcomes:
- Select from a variety of meditation techniques those that are appropriate for reducing stress; anxiety; confusion, or other states that hinder physical, mental, and intellectual well-being.
- Apply varying meditation and mindfulness techniques to expand capacities for empathy; goal-setting; self-regulation; deep-learning; and sustained (de-fragmented) concentration.
- Explain, in informal scientific terms, the phenomenon of neuroplasticity as it relates to the psychological and physiological effects of the practice of contemplative disciplines.
- Explain, in verbal and written form, whether and how the practice of meditation and mindfulness techniques has enhanced personal, professional, or academic success.
- Exhibit ethical/professional behavior in and out of the classroom in attendance, conduct, assignment completion, teamwork and constructive peer feedback.
