Offered FL, WI, as needed SM
3 credit hrs/3 contact hrs
Prerequisite/Corequisite: ENG 111 English Composition I
A course designed to help students master the essential elements of good writing in preparation for college-level work.  Class size is deliberately limited so that students can benefit from one-on-one work with the instructor and small group interaction as they quickly get up to speed on the requirements of writing across the college curriculum.  The course meets concurrently with ENG 111 English Composition I.

Student Learning Outcomes:
  • Write organized essays with a clear thesis statement and supporting details.
  • Write essays without major sentence level, word-level and syntactical distractions.
  • Revise essays for coherence, unity, clarity, and support.
  • Connect paragraph-level structure to larger essay structure and purpose.
  • Analyze the purpose, style, and audience of increasingly complex essays.
  • Edit for errors in usage, sentence structure, and word choice.
  • Use prewriting, drafting, revising, and editing steps for writing assignments
