ECE 297 - Early Childhood Observation Lab

3 credit hrs/3 contact hrs
Prerequisite: Approved application
Continuation of the study of principles and concepts of child development, childcare, and early childhood education. Skills in the 10 required competency standard areas would be covered. To apply for CDA certification, the student will have five years to complete an additional 300 hours of experience working with children.

Student Learning Outcomes:
  • CDA candidates will master the 6 CDA competency goals. In each functional area candidates will understand the developmental context of each domain.
  • CDA candidates will learn care giving skills that facilitate physical, social-emotional, cognitive and language development.
  • CDA candidates will learn ways to develop relationships with families and promote parental involvement in their child’s development.
  • CDA candidates will learn how to manage a successful program, which includes providing a safe, healthy learning environment.
  • Students will improve teaching/home visiting skills and will be prepared to meet requirements for CDA endorsement.
