ECE 150 - Infant and Toddler Care Offered WI Lecture- 3 Lab- 0 Clinical/Studio- 0 3 credit hrs/3 contact hrs An intense look at developmentally appropriate care for the special needs of infants and toddlers in classroom arrangement, charting, curriculum planning, language/literacy development, and cognitive, social-emotional, and physical development. Methodology of working in an infant and toddler setting, classroom environment and management, age-appropriate domains, and the implementation of proper care for a positive learning environment. Proper communication techniques will be covered for creating strong parent, caregiver, and child relationships.
Student Learning Outcomes:
- Develop a curriculum that includes respect and responsive care in an educational setting for the infant and toddler, including state licensing regulations for family/group care and center care.
- Synthesize the developmental needs to the age-expected behaviors of infants and toddlers.
- Practice appropriate teaching techniques for modeling, respecting, and guiding young children.
- Create a classroom curriculum that demonstrates knowledge of the four domains in a child’s development.
- Exhibit understanding of SIDS, prenatal care, conception, pregnancy, shaken baby syndrome, the creation of relationships with a child’s family, required daily record keeping, and infants/toddlers with special needs.
- Demonstrate understanding of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC)’s Code of Ethical Conduct and Developmentally Appropriate Practice for working with infants and toddlers.
