ECE 135 - Current Issues Early Childhood Ed

Prerequisite: ECE 101 Introduction to Early Childhood Education with “C” or better (2.0 out of a 4.0 scale)
This course will assist students in critiquing current issues that face Early Childhood Education. Issues may include areas such as developmentally appropriate practice, brain development and research, childcare issues, special needs and at-risk children, rights of parents, kindergarten entrance, diversity, and appropriate nutrition.

Student Learning Outcomes:
  • Compare current evidence-based issues in early childhood education.
  • Characterize the pros and cons of current instructional strategies and learning styles appropriate for a child’s development and growth, including children with unique needs.
  • Appraising proper guidance strategies for working with young children.
  • Articulate the differences in disciplines in early childhood education, through research and observations.
  • Critique the delivery of instruction, assessment, and professional development in early childhood education current practices.
  • Evaluate child advocacy strategies at the local, state, and federal levels.
