ECE 130 - Childhood Dev for Early Child Edu

This course will focus on the theories of child growth and development from conception through age twelve. Students will conduct an in-depth examination of physical, cognitive, emotional, and language developmental domains and their effects on a child’s learning. Supporting principles and patterns of developmentally appropriate practices for classroom instruction will also be addressed.

Student Learning Outcomes:
  • Create a community learning environment that supports classroom essentials for teachers to teach and children to learn that fosters problem solving and social-emotional development.
  • Format interest areas through lesson planning that support routines/daily schedules, small/ large group times, and an inclusive classroom.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of what children learn in six content areas including literacy, math, science, social studies, the arts, and technology through research as well as national and state standards.
  • Employ the concepts of open-ended questioning, open-ended materials, free play, floor-time, environmental control, child initiative, and multiple intelligences.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of how to alter an indoor and outdoor environment to meet the unique needs of an individual child.
