ECE 125 - Early Childhood Ed Activities

A focus on the principles and patterns of developmentally appropriate practices for classroom instruction and setup for infants through eight-year-old children. The classroom environment, the effects of developmental domains on a child’s learning, the expectations of each developmental stage, how teaching methodologies can encourage developmental growth, and a hands-on approach to current age-appropriate practices will also be addressed. 

Student Learning Outcomes:
  • Illustrate how children develop and learn in domains of social/emotional, physical, cognitive, and language development.
  • Use assessment tools to track children’s development.
  • Categorize and model an understanding of the learning environment and the structure of the classroom essential for teachers to teach and children to learn.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of what children learn in six content areas including literacy, math, science, social studies, the arts, and technology through national and state standards.
  • Employ the concepts of open-ended questioning, open-ended materials, free play, floor-time, environmental control, child initiative, and multiple intelligences.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of how to alter an indoor and outdoor environment to meet the unique needs of an individual child.
