COR 218 - Legal Issues in Corrections Offered WI Lecture- 3 3 credit hrs/3 contact hrs Prerequisite: appropriate reading placement The course will examine constitutional law; law and court process; U.S. courts, prisoner rights; Section 42, 1983 concerns; and current topics.
Student Learning Outcomes:
- Define state and federal constitutional laws as they relate to search and seizure, warrants, and arrest procedures.
- Trace the path of a criminal case, including the purpose and structure of each hearing.
- Describe the US and Michigan court systems, and the functions of each level of court.
- Verbalize the landmark court cases involving corrections.
- Describe the rights of a convicted offender, and the remedies for violating those rights.
