The course will examine constitutional law; law and court process; U.S. courts, prisoner rights; Section 42, 1983 concerns; and current topics.

Student Learning Outcomes:

Define state and federal constitutional laws as they relate to search and seizure, warrants, and arrest procedures.
Trace the path of a criminal case, including the purpose and structure of each hearing.
Describe the US and Michigan court systems, and the functions of each level of court.
Verbalize the landmark court cases involving corrections.
Describe the rights of a convicted offender, and the remedies for violating those rights.
