BOT 221 - Plant Biology Offered WI Lecture- 3 Lab- 2 4 credit hrs/5 contact hrs Students build a foundation in the anatomy, morphology, and diversity of plant life. Topics discussed include plant physiology, systematics, paleobotany, agriculture, and modern biotechnology of plants. The laboratory component of the course emphasizes exploration of plant anatomy under the microscope, scientific literature, and basic horticulture. Student Learning Outcomes: Sketch diverse plant material using microscopy to identify variation in plant tissues.
Describe the basic anatomy of a flowering plant and relate it to non-flowering plants.
Relate principles of ecology and evolution to the distribution and diversity of plant species.
Analyze experimental results as a means of understanding scientific communication.
