ART 203 - Art History II: Renaissance to Mod

Survey of Western art and architecture from the Renaissance to the present exploring the changing concerns and styles as political and economic powers shift from Church to State to the middle-class.  Topics such as the changing roles of the artist and patron and the increasing pace of stylistic change will be covered in this course.

Student Learning Outcomes:
  • Define and use standard art historical terms.
  • Identify, analyze, and discuss important works of art from the Renaissance through the Contemporary Periods.
  • Exhibit knowledge of the context behind an artwork’s conception during the Renaissance through the Contemporary Periods.
  • Discuss the works of recognized cultures in terms of the principle influences on their art, their artistic concerns, stylistic characteristics, and the media used.
  • Attribute unfamiliar artworks to a cultural and historical context using style, subject matter and content.
  • Critically evaluate and communicate ideas about artworks in essays and class discussions.
  • Exhibit ethical/professional behavior in and out of the classroom in attendance, conduct, assignment completion, teamwork and constructive peer feedback.
