ART 201 - Art History I: Ancient and Medieval Offered FL Lecture- 3 3 credit hrs/3 contact hrs Survey of Western art and architecture from Prehistoric through Gothic periods with an emphasis on the importance of the visual arts in telling the story of early civilizations. Topics such as developing technologies, sacred spaces, images of gods, and imperial portraiture will be covered in this course. Student Learning Outcomes: Define and use standard art historical terms.
Identify, analyze, and discuss important works of art from the Prehistoric through Medieval Periods.
Exhibit knowledge of the context behind an artwork’s conception during the Prehistoric through Medieval Periods.
Discuss the works of recognized cultures in terms of the principle influences on their art, their artistic concerns, stylistic characteristics, and the media used.
Attribute unfamiliar artworks to a cultural and historical context using style, subject matter and content.
Critically evaluate and communicate ideas about artworks in essays and class discussions.
Exhibit ethical/professional behavior in and out of the classroom in attendance, conduct, assignment completion, teamwork and constructive peer feedback.
