ART 101 - Art Appreciation Offered FL, WI Lecture- 3 3 credit hrs/3 contact hrs Introduction to a fundamental art vocabulary such as design elements and principles, artistic media and techniques. An emphasis is placed on learning how to experience art and architecture to understand how they convey meaning. A range of styles and time periods are explored revolving around themes of nature, the body, social, political and religious expression, and human habitation.
Student Learning Outcomes: Demonstrate knowledge of relevant art concepts, media and terminology.
Identify, analyze, interpret, and discuss important works of art and architecture.
Place unknown artworks in a cultural and historical context using style, subject matter, content, and media.
Communicate visual literacy through writing and class discussion.
Write descriptive, analytic and comparative analyses.
Exhibit knowledge of the formal elements of art and their use in artistic competition.
Exhibit ethical/professional behavior in and out of the classroom in attendance, conduct, assignment completion, teamwork and constructive peer feedback.
