Provides an introduction to the archeological study of prehistoric cultures of North America, a survey of the major culture areas of North America after European contact, and will conclude by focusing on contemporary issues of importance to American Indians today.

  • The nature of the archaeological evidence for the peopling of North America
  • The variety of traditional cultures, languages, and peoples among Native Americans
  • The role of the arts in Native American culture
  • The nature and effects of contact between Native Americans and Europeans
