ANT 114 - Native Peoples and Cultures/N. Amer Offered as needed Lecture- 3 3 credit hrs/3 contact hrs Provides an introduction to the archeological study of prehistoric cultures of North America, a survey of the major culture areas of North America after European contact, and will conclude by focusing on contemporary issues of importance to American Indians today.
Student Learning Outcomes:
- The nature of the archaeological evidence for the peopling of North America
- The variety of traditional cultures, languages, and peoples among Native Americans
- The role of the arts in Native American culture
- The nature and effects of contact between Native Americans and Europeans
- The severe impact of Anglo-American culture on Native Americans
- The challenges facing modern day Native Americans
- Understand the questions surrounding Native American Identity
