Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Certificate

The EMT program prepares students to take the National Registry EMT (NREMT) exam to become a licensed EMT. Individuals must be 18 years of age to be licensed as an EMT. Those under 18 may enroll in the program and take the exam, but will ineligible to apply for a license through the State of Michigan until their 18th birthday.

Prior to the start of the program students must attend an EMS orientation, obtain American Heart Association (AHA) Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, and complete an application for the program.

Upon program acceptance students must complete the following prior to beginning coursework:

  • Successfully pass a Criminal Background Check
  • Successfully pass a Drug Screen test
  • Provide Certification of Physical Fitness Form completed by a Physician
  • Provide current immunization records, including negative TB results. Records must remain current for the duration of the program
  • Provide current and vaid unrestricted State of Michigan Driver’s License

Semester 1


A Program Application is required prior to enrollment in any EMS course

Total: 14.5 Credit Hrs | 19.5 Contact Hrs


Semester 2


Successful completion of EMS 118, 130, 140 required prior to enrollment in 2nd Semester EMS courses

Total: 15.5 Credit Hrs | 19.5 Contact Hrs


Certificate Total: 30 Credit Hrs | 39 Contact Hrs
