The Surgical Technology Program is an Apprenticeship Program offered collaboratively through the Michigan Workforce Training and Education Collaborative (MWTEC). All students accepted into the program must be employed as an apprentice and sponsored by a health care facility. Cognitive components will be completed online through West Shore Community College, with hands-on labs and clinicals held at the student’s employment facility. General Education requirements may be completed prior to program enrollment and/or through a student’s home institution.
All SURG courses must be completed with a C+ (2.3) or higher to progress in the program. NOTE: Students with a CRCST (Certified Registered Central Service Technician) certificate may be awarded ten credit hours toward the degree, and would satisfy the requirements of ALH 104, SURG 101, 102, and 103. Upon successful completion of the first three semesters of the program, students will be eligible to sit for the Sterile Processing certificate exam. Graduates of the Surg Tech Program are eligible to take the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting national certification exam.
