The Medical Assistant Program is offered collaboratively through the Michigan Workforce Training and Education Collaborative (MWTEC). Cognitive components will be completed online through Southwestern Michigan College, with hands-on labs and clinicals held at a local facility. Students successfully completing the first three semesters will be eligible to sit for the RMA certification exam. All courses MEDA/HEED courses must be taken in the order they are listed.

Prior to clinical experience in the Medical Assistant courses, a criminal background investigation will be required of students. Any negative factors in students’ backgrounds may limit placement in courses. Attempts will be made to adjust for this limitation, but if accommodations cannot be made, continuation in the Medical Assistant courses will not be allowed. Also, a current American Heart Association (AHA) Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) card is required.
