The Paramedic program offers an exciting and challenging health care career for individuals interested in providing emergency care in the pre-hospital or hospital emergency department setting. EMT personnel are employed in ambulance services, police departments, fire departments, medical centers, and industry. Positions for EMT personnel should remain consistent due to the rising population of older persons, the segment of the population with the greatest frequency of health care needs. Prior to clinical experience, a criminal background investigation will be required of students. Any negative factors in a student’s background may limit placement in one or more agencies.
Students must attend an EMS Orientation, possess a current American Heart Association (AHA) Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) card, and complete and application for the program. Upon acceptance into the program, students will be required to complete or provide the following: *Successfully pass a Crimininal Background Check, *Successfully pass a Urine Drug Screen Test, *Provide Certification of Physical Fitness Form completed by a physician, *Current Immunizations, *Current and valid unrestricted State of Michigan Driver’s License
Individuals must be 18 years of age to be licensed at an EMT. However, the individual may take the NREMT test prior to the age of 18 but will need to wait until their 18th birthday to apply for an EMT license through the State of Michigan.
