CVT 110 - Cardio Diagnostic Procedures

Offered FL
Lecture- 3 Lab/Studio- 2
4 credit hrs/5 contact hrs
Prerequisite: Acceptance into the CVT program

This course provides an overview of the history, safety, equipment, and techniques involved in invasive diagnostic cardiac catheterization procedures. This course will focus on safety, identification and use of equipment related to diagnostic methods in cardiac catheterization. Students will learn mathematical equations in relation to normal and abnormal cardiac values. Students will build the foundational knowledge for diagnostic catheterization principles and procedures and apply this knowledge to corequisite coursework and in their clinical site rotations.

Student Learning Outcomes:

  • Describe history and progression of cardiac catheterization procedures and angiography.
  • Explain current standards of practice for diagnostic procedures and angiography.
  • Identify possible complications in cardiac catheterization procedures.
  • Identify sites of percutaneous access, types of approach and equipment used in diagnostic cardiac catheterization methods.
  • Explain components of angiography and applications as it relates to diagnostic imaging.
  • Perform mathematical equations as it relates to various cardiac functions.
  • Identify hemodynamic waveforms and determine normal and abnormal values.
  • Describe procedural operations in foundational cardiovascular catheterization studies.
  • Identify and describe components of diagnostic procedures and imaging pertaining to the left and right side of the heart.
