ALH 160 - Phlebotomy

2 credit hrs/4 contact hrs
Prerequisite: Current BLS certification
Designed to prepare the entry-level phlebotomist or those interested in a medical career with the knowledge and skills necessary to perform phlebotomy techniques correctly and safely.  Students will learn the order of blood draws, various techniques and locations for obtaining a blood specimen, and processing and transporting specimens.  Students will gain confidence through continued practice with medical equipment, and on-line and classroom instruction.  Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be eligible to sit for the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Phlebotomy Technician Certification.  An American Heart Association (AHA) Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) card is required.
