SOC 276 - Gender Roles in Society Offered FL odd years Lecture- 3 3 credit hrs/3 contact hrs Prerequisite: SOC 171 - Introduction to Sociology or PSY 161 - Introduction to Psychology with “C” or better (2.0 out of a 4.0 scale) or Instructor Permission This course introduces students to the sociological study of gender and gender relations with a focus on the United States. Students will explore topics such as gender socialization and gender inequality within the context of a changing American society.
Student Learning Outcomes:
- Identify and explain key terms, concepts, trends, theories, and ideas related to the sociological study of gender.
- Express ideas in written and oral communication effectively.
- Identify how the concepts in this course are present in and relevant to their personal, social, and work lives.
- Connect ideas learned in the course to each other.
- Discuss the how the struggles people face relate to the gendered organization of society.
- Appreciate the importance of sociology as a tool for understanding gender and social problems related to gender.
- Develop more effective learning habits.
