PHL 204 - Philosophy of Religion

Historical and thematic introduction to the philosophical study of religion and religious beliefs. Representative topics include the nature and existence of God, the relationship between faith and reason, the problem of evil, and miracles and divine intervention.

Student Learning Outcomes:
  • Students will be able to identify the major movements, figures and themes in the field of philosophy known as philosophy of religion.
  • Students will be able to interpret, summarize, and paraphrase, both orally and in writing, the major views of philosophers of religion.
  • Students will be able to use the logical and critical thinking methods of philosophy to analyze and evaluate the core philosophical ideas discussed in philosophy of religion.
  • Students will be able to, both orally and in writing, state and support their own views on philosophical issues related to religion in a logical, coherent, creative and independent manner
