PHL 100 - Introduction to Philosophy Offered FL, WI, SM Lecture- 3 3 credit hrs/3 contact hrs Historical and thematic introduction to the major issues, theories, and methods of philosophy. Representative topics include truth, knowledge, reality, personal identity, free will, happiness, and the meaning of life.
Student Learning Outcomes:
- Define the major questions, themes, terminology, and subject matter of philosophy, such as free will, personal identity, the nature of reality, and the meaning of life.
- Distinguish between key philosophical concepts.
- Summarize and analyze the ideas and theories of major philosophers and philosophical schools of thought.
- Critically assess philosophical theories and concepts.
- Apply philosophical ideas to current events, pop culture, and real-life situations such as family, work, and personal relationships.
- Create original philosophical perspectives that incorporate course material.
- Exhibit ethical/professional behavior in and out of the classroom in attendance, conduct, assignment completion, teamwork and constructive peer feedback.
