Prerequisite/Corequisite: ALH 104 - Medical Terminology and ANP 118 - Introduction to the Human Body
Prepares students in coding and billing skills necessary in a doctor’s office and other medical office facilities. Includes ICD Coding, CPT Coding, Medicare Fraud and Abuse, and Evaluation Management.

Student Learning Outcomes:

Communicate medical coding and billing concepts, methods, and evidence clearly in written and spoken reports.
Exhibit ethical/professional behavior in attendance, class conduct, assignment completion, teamwork and constructive peer feedback.
Demonstrate proficiency of provider reimburesement, compliance, and HIPPA as it relates to the healthcare setting and procedural/diagnostic medical coding.
Explore the body system within the ICD-10 code sets.
Utilize tactful communication skills with medical providers to ensure accurate code selection.
Discuss the effects of upcoding/downcoding.
Demonstrate proficiency in the use of correct coding in an office visit setting for evaluation and management.
Utilize Medicare guidelines to identify, prevent, and report fraud and abuse.
Describe various types of insurance.
