NUR 241 - Medical Surgical II Clinical Offered FL Lab- 8 3 credit hrs/8 contact hrs Prerequisite: LPN Program Completion Corequisite: NUR 240
Study of acute/chronic diseases of the adult and the nursing care required to regain or maintain optimal health or die with dignity. Lab includes review of medication administration (PO, SQ, IM) and introduction of IV pushes, IVPBs, use of IV pumps, IV site initiation and maintenance, blood administration, and chest tube maintenance. Clinical applications include direct care of small groups of acutely ill, but stable medical and surgical patients according to the ANA Standards and Nurse’s Code of Ethics.
Student Learning Outcomes:
- Recognize and begin to advocate for patients and families in ways that promote their self-determination, integrity, and ongoing growth as human beings.
- Formulate judgements in practice, substantiated with evidence, that reflect nursing science in the provision of safe quality care and promote the health of patients within a family and community context.
- Apply one’s role as a nurse in ways that reflect integrity, responsibility, ethical practices, and an evolving identity as a nurse committed to evidence-based practice, caring, advocacy, and safe quality care for diverse patients within a family and community context.
