NUR 240 - Medical Surgical Nursing II Theory Offered FL Lecture- 3 3 credit hrs/3 contact hrs Prerequisite: LPN Program Completion Corequisite: NUR 241
Study of acute/chronic diseases of the adult and the nursing care required to regain or maintain optimal health or die with dignity. Lab includes review of medication administration (PO, SQ, IM) and introduction of IV pushes, IVPBs, use of IV pumps, IV site initiation and maintenance, blood administration, and chest tube maintenance. Clinical applications include direct care of small groups of acutely ill, but stable medical and surgical patients according to ANA Standards and Nurse’s Code of Ethics.
Student Learning Outcomes:
- Analyze safe, patient-centered nursing care for patients with various health conditions.
- Examine evidence from current research into the provision of nursing care for all patients.
- Incorporate the unique identity of each patient in the provision of quality care.
- Compare one’s personal characteristics as a professional nurse to other clinical nurses to help achieve quality patient care for all patients.
