NUR 221 - Mental Health Nursing Clinical

Corequisite: NUR 220

Study and application of the concepts of mental health care. Emphasis is on maintaining optimal mental wellness, associated treatment, through safe administration of medications and/or therapies, and recognizing the holistic nature of humans. Gain understanding of own behavior, establish and maintain a therapeutic environment, improve interviewing techniques.

Student Learning Outcomes:

Provide holistic care to individuals and families with acute/chronic changes in mental health status in the clinical setting using the nursing process.
Advocate as a patient-centered health professional for a diverse population of individuals and families with acute/chronic changes in mental health.
Differentiate the pathophysiological and clinical manifestations of common acute/chronic mental health disorders in individuals through the life span continuum.
Demonstrate concepts of responsibility and accountability as they relate to professional nursing practice as it applies to QSEN, the ANA Standards of Nursing and the State Board on Nursing in mental health.
Synthesize clinical and classroom standards of patient care as it relates to QSEN, the Mental Health Code, the ANA Standards, and the individual with mental health issues.
