Study of the concepts of maternal‐child health including, antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum periods. Understanding of the maternal experience, cultural impact and current evidenced based practices from professional organizations such as ANA, Nurses Code of Ethics, and AWOHNN. This class entails care of the newborn child through adolescence. Concepts in family dynamics during this experience will also be covered.
Student Learning Outcomes:
- Apply pharmacological, nutritional, pathophysiological, and psychosocial principles that will assist the interdisciplinary team to meet the physical, emotional, educational, and spiritual needs of the mother, child, and family.
- Apply the nursing process to enable the child client and his/her familty to achieve maximum health and safety from an interdisciplinary team.
- Illustrate a plan of care using concept mapping in classroom using evedence-based practice to meet the needs of the woman and her family during antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum periods and with emergency situation and infertility.
- Use the nursing process to provide safe, ethically competent nursing care for the obstetric and pediatric client and their families as a part of the interdisciplinary team.
