NUR 161 - Medical/Surgical Nursing Clinical I

Corequisite: NUR 160, NUR 170, NUR 171, ANP 231, PSY 161

Student demonstrates skills learned in NUR 160, including applying clinical judgment and the nursing process to common adult health problems in the acute care setting. Focused health assessments are performed, considering the holistic needs of the patient and the family. Principles of safety, collaboration, person‐centered care, and effective patient and family education are applied to planning, implementing and evaluating care.

Student Learning Outcomes:

Provide effective holistic nursing care to a medical-surgical patient within an acute care setting.
Demonstrate a focused nursing assessment using data collection and the nursing process.
Provide accurate information to patient and family to promote health and human flourishing.

Identify the role of the prescriber, pharmacist, and nurse in verifying safe medication orders.
