NUR 110 - Fundamentals of Nursing Practice

Corequisite: NUR 111 , NUR 134, COM 110 , ANP 230  

This course will provide an overview of fundamental nursing concepts necessary to provide for the holistic needs of clients across the lifespan. Concepts include health assessment, physical examination, health history, planning for care, identifying outcomes and applying the nursing process to implement evidence based nursing interventions for patient care. Therapeutic communication skills and team collaboration will be emphasized.

Student Learning Outcomes:
  • Implement evidence-based nursing interventions for hygiene, skin and wound care, immobility, fluid electrolyte, and acid-base imbalances, bowel and urinary elimination alterations, and caridac and respiratory alterations.
  • Describe nursing concepts of maintaining medical and surgical asepsis, safety, and infection control principles in providing direct patient care.
  • Apply the nursing process as the framework in providing care to all patients.
  • Recognize normal from abnormal physical assessment findings during a comprehensive exam.
  • Implement high-quality documentation standards for all nursing care provided.
  • Identify cultural and age-related characteristics pertinent to providing holistic nursing care.
  • Differentiate between normal and abnormal body systems.
  • Exhibit ethical/professional behavior in and out of the classroom in attendance, conduct, assignment completion, teamwork and constructive perr feedback.
